Write marketing emails fast with Cohere’s text generation

Sign in and open the Cohere Playground

Open your web browser and go to cohere.com. Click the Log in button in the top‑right corner (it looks like a small person icon). After you log in you’ll see a dashboard with tiles such as “Playground”, “Projects”, and “Documentation”. Click the tile labelled Playground – it may also appear as a button that says “Try the Playground”. The Playground opens a clean text area where you can type prompts and watch the AI reply. If you don’t see a Playground tile, look for a menu icon (three horizontal lines) and choose “Playground” from the list.

You’ll know it worked when a blank white box with a cursor appears, ready for you to type.

Write a prompt that tells Cohere who you are and what tone you need

In the text box, type a prompt (the instruction you give to an AI, like a brief you hand to a copywriter). Explain the product, the offer, and the voice you want. For instance, write:

“Write a short marketing email for a local organic fruit and vegetable delivery service called Fresh Harvest. Announce a new weekly box subscription, offer a 10 % discount for the first month, and keep the tone warm, friendly, and helpful.”
When you press Enter or click the Generate button below the box, Cohere’s large language model (LLM – a computer program that predicts text like the engine behind ChatGPT) will start producing a response. If the button looks different, it may be a blue “Submit” or a paper‑plane icon; click whatever appears to send your prompt.

You’ll know it worked when the screen fills with a subject line and several paragraphs of email copy.

Review the first draft and note what needs tweaking

The AI’s reply will usually include a subject line on the first line, followed by a blank line, then the email body. Read it carefully; check that the product name, discount amount, and tone match what you asked for. If the subject line is too long, or the body feels too formal, you’ll need to ask for a revision. Remember, Cohere can draft text but cannot send the email for you – you still have to copy the result into your email client. If the layout looks different (for example, the reply appears in a side panel rather than under the prompt), scroll down until you see the generated text.

You’ll know it worked when you can see both a subject line and at least three paragraphs of body text.

Refine the tone with a follow‑up prompt

Below the first answer, there’s another text box for a new prompt. Type a short instruction that asks the AI to adjust the style, for example:

“Make the email sound a bit more relaxed and casual. Use Australian spelling such as ‘favour’ and ‘organise’, and shorten the subject line to under six words.”
Press Generate again. The AI will produce a revised version that follows your additional guidance. If the button for generating a second answer is hidden, look for a small “+” icon next to the original prompt or a “Regenerate” link – clicking either will send the new instruction.

You’ll know it worked when the new output shows a shorter, punchier subject line and the body uses the requested spelling variations.

Copy the finished email into your favourite email client

Select the entire subject line and body text (click and drag, then press Ctrl + C on Windows or Cmd + C on macOS). Open your email program (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) and start a new message. Paste the copied text into the subject field (Ctrl + V / Cmd + V) and the body area. Make any final personal touches – for example, add the recipient’s name or a signature block. If you don’t see a paste option, right‑click in the field and choose “Paste”.

You’ll know it worked when the email draft in your client shows the exact subject line and body you generated, ready to hit “Send”.
