Turn a quick voice memo into a structured meeting summary with Copilot

Record a voice note, paste it into GitHub Copilot, and get a clear, actionable meeting summary in seconds — no typing required.

Hook: You’ve just wrapped up a quick chat with your team, a client, or your manager. Instead of typing notes for 10 minutes, you record a 60-second voice memo on your phone. Then, you paste it into GitHub Copilot — and in seconds, you get a clear, structured summary with key points, action items, and next steps. No typing, no stress, just clarity.

💡 Tip: tap a step’s number when you finish it — a green tick appears and your browser remembers how far you got.

✅ Before you start
  • A GitHub account (free is fine)
  • The GitHub Copilot website or app open in a browser
  • A voice memo (60 seconds or less) saved on your phone or computer
  • Rough time: 5 minutes total

1

Open GitHub Copilot and start a new chat

Open your browser and go to copilot.github.com. Look for a button like “Start a new chat” or “New chat” in the top-left corner. Tap it. A new chat window will open with a prompt box at the bottom. You’ll know it worked when you see a blank chat ready for your input.

💬 Example(You don’t type anything yet.)

2

Paste your voice memo into the chat

On your phone, open the voice memo you recorded. Tap “Share” and choose “Copy” or “Copy text” (if your app supports it). Back in the Copilot chat, tap the prompt box at the bottom. Paste your memo. If you don’t see a paste option, look for a small clipboard icon or “Paste” in the menu. You’ll know it worked when your voice memo text appears in the chat window.

💬 Example(Paste the text of your voice memo here.)

3

Ask Copilot to turn the memo into a structured summary

In the same chat box, type or paste this prompt exactly:

Please turn this voice memo into a clear, structured meeting summary. Include: key points, decisions made, action items with owners, and next steps. Format it as a markdown bullet list.

If your screen looks different and you don’t see a prompt box, look for a text input field or “Ask Copilot” button. You’ll know it worked when Copilot starts typing a response below your prompt.

💬 Example> Please turn this voice memo into a clear, structured meeting summary. Include: key points, decisions made, action items with owners, and next steps. Format it as a markdown bullet list.

4

Review and tweak the summary

Copilot will return a neatly formatted summary. Read it carefully. If anything is missing or unclear, type a follow-up like:

Can you add the date and time of the meeting? Also, who was present?

If the summary is too long, ask:

Shorten this to the top 5 bullet points only.

You’ll know it worked when Copilot edits the summary and shows the updated version.

💬 Example> Can you add the date and time of the meeting? Also, who was present?

5

Copy the final summary and share it

Once you’re happy with the summary, highlight the entire response and tap Copy (or right-click → Copy). Paste it into your team chat, email, or project tool. If you don’t see a copy button, look for “⋯” or “Share” in the top-right corner of the response. You’ll know it worked when you can paste the clean summary anywhere.

💬 Example(The final summary is ready to paste.)

⚠️ Common mistakes
  • Mistake: Pasting a long voice memo (over 2 minutes) and expecting a perfect summary. Fix: Keep your memo under 60 seconds. Copilot works best with concise notes.

  • Mistake: Not specifying the format (e.g., bullet list, markdown). Fix: Always include “Format it as a markdown bullet list” in your prompt so the output is clean and easy to read.

  • Mistake: Skipping the review step and sharing the raw output. Fix: Always read the summary before sharing. Add names, dates, or details if needed.

🚀 Try it now

Open the voice memo app on your phone, record a 30-second note about your next meeting, then open GitHub Copilot in your browser and paste it. Ask Copilot to turn it into a structured summary. You’ll have a clean, shareable note in under two minutes.
