You ask your phone a question while cooking and it answers — but the answer comes two seconds too late, after a robotic chime. You try again. Same pause. What "real-time" actually means here
In plain terms, real-time voice AI means the system replies in roughly a third of a second — close to the gap between two people in a normal conversation. Anything slower than that, and your brain starts treating the AI like a tool again. Anything similar, and it starts feeling like a person.
Three things make this work together:
- Continuous listening. The AI is always hearing you, so you don't have to tap a microphone or say a wake word each time.

A few realistic uses that get noticeably better when the AI can keep up:

- Hands-free help at work. Walking between meetings, you can think out loud and have the AI summarize, draft, or look things up as you talk.
- Brainstorming partner. Spoken back-and-forth is faster than typing when you're still figuring out what you think.
- Accessibility. For anyone who finds typing slow or painful, a fast voice assistant starts to feel less like a gadget and more like real help.
